Come on Lex!!! Don't get all mature on me now. She is, however, a master saleswoman and Dad manipulator in her old age. (She turns 8 in May). She showed her smarts and prowess by secretly creating TWO Christmas lists: a 'home' list and a 'Daddy' list.
Smartypants wasn't smart enough to remember not to tell me of her trick! LOL. The home list consisted of 2000 different littlest pet shop items, Knuffle bunny and book, certain games for her Wii and her impending Nintendo DSi that she put on the 'Daddy' list, an iPod touch... amongst other items. The 'Daddy' list contained 2001 different littlest pet shop items, Knuffle bunny and book, iPad (WTF), that Nintendo DSi previously mentioned, a Bratz doll and clothes, Zhu Zhu pets video game, Zhu Zhu pets and other items.
My 1st question to Lex was, "What do you know about an iPad"? She promptly said, "well every time I'm on the computer, something pops on the screen or on the side of the page that shows an iPad or iPod touch and they are soooo cool... and since the iPod touch is like a small iPad, I think I want that instead of the big iPad"! I quietly did a Macaulay Culkin fist pump as the price difference is about $400.
Needless to say, Lex had a very good Christmas. She got everything on her list except the iPod touch or iPad. She's got enough gaming devices and as for an iPad right now.. mehhhh, not so much. I don't even have one! It was pretty smooth of Lex to put together Christmas Lists 1A and 1B. That's kind of how I am feeling about this Super Bowl match up. I believe the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers game will be a close one. There is no way I would put a dime on this game. I don't really feel there is a prohibitive favorite but, as usual, I do have some opinions I'd like to get off my chest!

Ben Roethlisberger taking five offensive lineman out for dinner on a Tuesday night 5 days before a game is a NON-STORY! WTF!! It's five days before a game for dinner. Steeler coach Mike Tomlin summed it up properly when he stated "I'm not concerned one iota. It's normal for guys to eat dinner, believe it or not. During the course of the season, guys go out on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Believe it or not, guys live lives.” Good grief.
Aaron Rodgers vs. Brett Favre. Can we stop this 'ish' right now!! First of all Brett Favre is a Hall of Fame quarterback without a doubt! Favre is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 70,000 yards, the only quarterback to throw over 500 touchdowns, subsequently the only quarterback to throw over 300 interceptions, and the only quarterback to have over 10,000 pass attempts. He is the only player to win the AP Most Valuable Player three consecutive times (1995–97). He has led teams to eight division championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009), five NFC Championship Games (1995, 1996, 1997, 2007, 2009), and two Super Bowl appearances (Super Bowl XXXI, Super Bowl XXXII), winning one (Super Bowl XXXI). He is as tough as they come. The guy started 1 million straight games (actually it was 321) without the flag football rules that Roger Badell has imposed on this league. Yes, Favre's late career became a reality show; (let's call it Favrey Shore) but the guy is one of the greatest to play the game and played good football into his forties.
Aaron Rodgers is a baller. He's well on his way to becoming possibly the best in our game. Rodgers is the NFL all-time career leader in passer rating during the regular season (98.4), and lowest career pass interception percent (1.99%), in his short career. However, he's won exactly 4 playoff games and seems to have a baby's skull. He gets a concussion every 3rd hit it seems. I am not trying to make light of his head injuries but Brett did start 321 in a row. I know the media guys have to do their jobs, yada yada yada... but let Favre retire and Let Aaron create his own legacy and stop comparing the two.
Let's change lanes for a second. Go HEELS! Heels just stomped on Florida State with point guard Kendall Marshall collecting 16 assists and only 2 turnovers only two days after Bobby Petrino decided to quit the team... I meant Larry Drew II. What's the difference? They both quit on their teams midstream. After defending Drew II for the past two seasons, almost in a protective, fatherly fashion, Roy Williams finally did what was best for the team. He benched Drew II in lieu of freshman Kendall Marshall. Drew II responded by playing well off the bench and the TarHeels surged back in the AP top 25 after dropping like a rock in the early season.
Then a few days after posting a solid 9 assist game against Boston College, Drew II walked out. No conversation, no reason. His dad, NBA Atlanta Hawk coach Larry Drew Sr, spoke with Roy on the phone to say Drew II was leaving the program because it was best for him right now. WHAT???? What happens the next time Coach Drew pulls Josh Smith out of the game and Josh is unhappy? Can Josh just say fuck it and go to the locker room and get dressed for a night in Buckhead? Good Riddance Drew II. Don't let the TarHeel leave a tar stain on your ass on the way out.
Okay... back to football. Sorry. I digressed. Congrats to the Hall of Fame class of 2011Primetime Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk led a class of seven voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Joining them were Shannon Sharpe, Richard Dent, Ed Sabol, Les Richter and Chris Hanburger. Great class, but when will Chris Carter rightfully get his bust in Canton? Come On MAN!!!!!!
On to my prediction. The Packers have played well at the end of the season. The receiving corps, are as good as they come. Dom Capers have built a 3-4 defense as well as his mentor, Pittsburgh Defensive Coordinator and Hall of Famer, LeBeau. The Pack eliminated my Eagles by 5 in a poorly played game by us. They dismantled the Atlanta Falcons. Can we please stop referring to their QB as Matty Ice? Then they beat the Chicago Bears after Cutler went down, and the 3rd string QB almost pulled it out. The Packers were impressive against the Falcons but not overly impressive against the other 2 teams. Nevertheless, they got wins and that's all that matters.
The Pittsburgh Steelers seemed to have been convinced that they only need to dominate one half of football in order to win. It has worked so far. They slept through the first half against the Baltimore Ravens, but the defense annihilated poor Joe Flacco and held the team to 126 yards of offensive. WOW! That's 126 yards for the WHOLE game! Impressive. Then, they put their collective feet up Rex Ryan's New York Jets collective asses in the first half and opened up a 24-0 lead before deciding to drink champagne at halftime, apparently. They Jets scored 19 unanswered points and the Steelers held on to win after Big Ben converted a HUGE third down late in the 4th quarter.
I think this game will be a close one. Both teams' offenses will be well prepared for the 3-4 defensive scheme as they face the scheme every single day in practice. I do believe that Aaron Rodgers will take advantage of the least affective part of the defense: the secondary (in coverage). While their backfield will come up and tackle like linebackers, they have been attacked if the front seven isn't getting quick pressure.
The Steelers offense will have their hands full with OLB Clay Matthews Jr. and DT B.J. Raji. Raji will particularly be a focus of the Steelers since their starting center, Maurkice Pouncey, is out after injuring himself in the AFC Championship game against the Jets. The Packers defense is solid but I can't stop picturing Bears third string QB Caleb Hanie look pretty damn effective with the game on the line in the NFC Championship game. He threw two, typical 3rd string QB interceptions but didn't look all that bad against that defense with the Super Bowl on the line.
I don't know how much all that will matter in tonight's game. All I know is my Steeler friends aren't going to be to happy considering my pick last year (Colts) was WRONG. This year, I have decided that I am picking the underdogs. Yes, the Steelers are the underdogs, somehow after going 12-4 and earning the 2 seed in the AFC. The NFC's 6 seed Packers earned their way in by winning their last two and watching the NY Giants somehow implode down the stretch. I can still see Coach Coughlin's face turn fire red as he slammed down his play sheet will Desean Jackson was dancing up the middle of the field!
Any who.... Will the Packers be singing Lil Wayne's GREEN AND YELLOW????? or will Nikki Jones be annoying the hell out of me for another year straight singing BLACK AND YELLOW?? The Steelers defense will wreak havoc. Ben's experience will take over once again as he makes clutch plays in the fourth quarter. I am going to love when they flash the camera over to Jerry Jones' face as the Steelers win their 7th Super Bowl in his house! I still can't believe I thought the talented Cowboys would at least make the NFC championship in the preseason. Ohhhh, how I love being wrong!!
Steelers 27 Green Bay 21. CAN'T WAIT!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://luknowsitall.blogspot.com/2011/02/shut-up-i-already-know-i-picked-super.html' title='SHUT UP!! Just imagine a 3 year old trying to say Vagina.. Anyways, fast forward to 3 years later and Lex and I are at Jason's Deli for lunch. Alexa had been asking to go to the restroom while we were driving so I have to take her to the men's room. She takes a look over at the urinals and says, "Daddy, why are those up there? Why are they not in the girl's restroom?" So i said' "Lex, we talked about this before." .. and before I can finish she says, "Oh yeah, men and boys have different parts than women and little girls." I agreed and she finished going and we are walking out of the restroom. I looked down at her and started looking for an umbrella 'cause I could see her little brain storming!!!

Then it happened. Lexa reminded me why some people can puke on command. She said, "Daddy, what's the man vagina part called?" OMG !! OMG !! OMG !! You guys have seen me. I'm African-American with a dark brown complexion... But I'll be damned if I didn't turn greenish-yellow! I mean literally, 'cause Lex looked at me as if I had changed color. I panicked but kept a pretty straight face and said, " Lex, this place is crowded and I'm not sure I'm ready to talk about that yet."

Surprisingly, she let it slide. Maybe because she wanted a sub from Subway, which was next door. Her favorite sub is Salami and olives on white bread with nothing else on it.. Eww... Who likes that? ..and when did she first decide to try that??. Anyways, on the way out of Subway, Lex tells me she loves me. She tells me that a lot but I can tell this one was a precursor. 2 seconds later Lexa says, "why can't you tell me what the man's vagina part is called? Am I not old enough to know this yet? Why can't u tell me? Do I need to be a teenager? I finally told her yes and we'll talk about it one day...... Whew .. over right???

Not by a long shot. A couple hours later and I am preparing her for a bath. She says, I have to go poop.... and she goes to take a poop.... and the questions start firing away ... First she looks down at IT and asks why is poop always brown or green looking?? HAHHAHAHAHA Why isn't it ever red or yellow or blue or pink or purple... I say Lex, enough of the poop questions and quit observing it!!! Then she finishes up and says, "Daddy, my vagina hurts." At this point I am having a heart attack since she's in camp. All types of sh!t is going through my mind. I jump and and run over and I'm peppering her with questions. Why? Did someone touch you? When did it start hurting? etc, etc....

Lexa commences to say, "what do you mean when did it start hurting? It hurts every time I take a poop and the poop is big. Something that big shouldn't come from this little hole!!! and she points at her front section!!! And i go "what? huh, Lex? Do you think poop comes from there?" Of course she says yes. And I tell Lex, no hun. Poop comes from your backside; the part you call your 'bum'. And she gets this amazingly shocked lock on her face.. grabs her butt and tries to turn all the way around to look at it and says... No wonder the two round things back there are soooo big. 'Cause they have to hold the poop!! i never knew that!

At this point, I'm frighteningly sick, but happy that nothing is wrong with her lil body. I can only Imagine the questions that I'm gonna get going forward... The thought makes me a little queasy!!!! Lexa is a trip!!

Speaking of Queasy.. How sick is Gilbert Arenas or Sam Bradford right now. How do these 2 people fit together? They know how to blow millions of dollars with 1 bad decision. In Arenas' case--- REALLY??? REALLY Gilbert? You are in the 2nd year of a 6 year, $111 million dollar contract in which you rehabbed your balky knee the first year and a half and you pull this shit. Ughhhhhhhh.. Gilbert... How can you blame Gilbert, huh? He was probably still effed up because Shaq is nailing his baby mama and fiance' Laura Govan!!! YES!! Come on Shaq. Come on...
Seriously, though Gilbert, you spend over a million dollars to throw yourself a birthday party but you can't pay a card game gambling debt to a teammate? Idiot.

Sam Bradford did what??? He decided to go back to college to win a championship for a school that make millions and millions and for a coach who makes more millions and millions. You did what? You are the current Heisman winner and projected as the #1 overall pick but you wanna do what? Then what happens the first week of the season? He gets his shoulder sandwiched between a 250 pound LB and the turf... and your season is now over!! You will not win a championship and you just might get hurt again...... Yeap, he did. Not only did Sam not have surgery immediately, he decided to rehab, play again, and shoulder sandwich again. Meanwhile Matthew Stafford is spending his $41.7 million guaranteed dollars!!! Oh and guess what? Matthew Stafford got hurt also and was out for the season... but he got his cheddar!!
The moral of the story is GET YOUR MONEY. You can always go back to school. This old BS mantra of 'get your degree' is a crock of sh!t. Why do people go to college? Yes, we wanna get laid and drink until we get sick enough to pull the alarm in the girl's dorm at 3 a.m. so we can see them in their nighties. But we also go to college to get a degree in order to earn a living. I thought that was the goal? Am I wrong? Isn't college supposed to be the springboard to get your ass out there and earn a living? Well why pass up on the lottery? That's basically what Sam did. He purchased a winning lotto ticket for $70 million and said, "eff it. I'll try again next year!" Noooooooooooooooooo u fool.
Note to college athletes who are considered high 1st rounders.. Enter the damn draft. Why would a doctor continue to go to school if he or she is good enough to be a surgeon already?

Take the cash. That's what I say! It's my opinion and I don't care what you think!
Holla

PILOT

So I decided to do a web log or BLOG, as they say.. I do enough sports talking on the Book of Faces that I feel I should express myself in length and to everyone who may decide to visit my page.... u know, since I'm soooooooooo famous..

Just kidding... for those of you who don't know who I am, here's a snapshot on wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_Broughton

I'm a country boy. I was born in Charleston, SC; grew up in Huger, SC; and went to college at Furman University in Greenville, SC. I basically didn't leave the damn state until the Philadelphia Eagles decided, for some stupid reason, to draft a no-talent, basketball wannabe tight end from a Div 1AA school.. or should I say 'Football Championship Subdivision' as it is now called... (that's a conversation for another day-- the whole D1, D1AA, Bowl Subdivision, BCS BULLSH!T)....

Oh and that wannabe basketball comment.. Just bullshooting.. I used to be a baller :) -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMdKZSrgzyw

Anyways, back to my lil' Bio. I yoyo-d between the Eagles and Carolina Panthers for 5 fun NFL years. I really had good times. I wish I could have lasted longer, won more games, and played more, but what the heck?.. I lasted 5 years in a league that perpetually regurgitates athletes like Lara Flynn Boyle does her lunch..

After I was done with football, I had a wonderful little daughter named Alexa... I miss her everyday she's not with me. Yes, I am a statistic.. I'm happily divorced...

Now, I have a 9-5 like the other guy and I talk more sports crap on Facebook than any human being should... With that being said........

How can anyone think the Saints are gonna win the Super Bowl?? In their last 6 games (not including the last game against the Panthers when they played their JV team) they were not impressive at all.
They barely beat the 3-8 Deadskins in OT by 3, then beat the 6-6 Falcons by 3. Dallas came to NO and kicked their collective asses. Low and behold, the next week the pathetic, 2-12 Bucs beat them in OT after being down 17-3 at the half. On top of that, the crappy Yuccaneers outgained the Saints 439-373.
They finally showed up against the defensively-inept Cardinals in the playoffs and blasted them and somehow convinced all the so-called experts to claim they were 'great' again.
....And then came the Vikings with their oily fingered, gunslinging, 12 men in the huddle implosion. The Vikings kicked the Saints all over the field. 475 yards and 31 first downs to the Saints' 257 yards and 15, I repeat, 15 first downs!! I thought the Saints were the new 'Greatest Show on Turf!'.. And Speaking of turf.. How many freaking times can 1 team put the ball on it!!! Adrian Peterson just fumbled again as I was typing... 5 lost fumbles (2 inside the 20 and 1 of those at the darn 3), and 2 STUPID interceptions and the Saints still needed a lucky bounce and a very generous 1st down spot in overtime in order to win that game... How can you not blow a team out that turns the ball over 5 times in your house??? How??? The Vikings would have won if not for the stupid 12 men in the huddle penalty that came AFTER a timeout and Brett's RIDICULOUS interception... JUST RIDICULOUS.. Shoulda Coulda Woulda.. Congrats Saints for winning the NFC..

I'm just saying that 2 weeks from now, a 6'5" QB with a rocket arm and tons of Sony HDTV commercials will be walking home with another Lombardi trophy and solidify his spot in the 'best QB ever to play the game' debate. I'm just saying... It's my opinion and I don't care what you think.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v8.nonxt5.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dbce20b8e0089697c%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331447739%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D7630E676B22B54FD9E59ADB58132D82520A787F8.1C5216B59205E5F14285896D84A6A7722CB97760%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dbce20b8e0089697c%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DNts7qsLRYOUwJg315EA2xbsVDPo&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />
